Automobiles and the U.S. Post Office have had a relationship since the first editions of the America on the Move series were released in 2005. Designed by Carl Herrman and illustrated by artist Art Fitzpatrick, that five-piece ?50s Sports Cars collection consisted of the 1953 Corvette, 1954 Kaiser Darrin, 1952 Nash-Healey, 1953 Studebaker Starliner and the 1955 Ford Thunderbird. Just three years later, the pair conceived and illustrated the second series of America on the Move stamps with the release of the ?50s Fins and Chrome stamps. Again a five-piece set, vehicles getting the nod included the 1957 Chrysler 300C, 1957 Lincoln Premiere, 1957 Pontiac Safari, 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk and the iconic 1959 Cadillac Eldorado. At this year?s Daytona 500, NASCAR legend Richard Petty, accompanied by son Kyle and Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe, dedicated the third set of automotive stamps of the series: Muscle Cars Forever.
Available for a limited time, the set was this time illustrated by Tom Fritz under the direction of Carl Herrman and features five of the icons of the era: 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1967 Shelby G.T. 500, 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle and the 1970 Plymouth Hemi ?Cuda. On sale now at your local post office, the racy Muscle Car stamps are issued as self-adhesive Forever stamps (value equivalent always matching current rate of First Class one-ounce postage regardless of any impending increase) in sheets of 20; four copies of each stamp design per sheet.
