Saina Nehwal leads India into semi-finals of 2013 All England Open ? Badminton News

Women?s Singles expert Saina Nehwal proved her worth in the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships as she thrashed Wang Shixian in the quarter-finals on March 8, 2013.

This 73-minute tussle proved a real test for both contenders as they challenged each other while piling up the decisive figures of 23-21, 19-21 and 21-16.

The local badminton lovers of Birmingham enjoyed this hard fought battle and applauded both shuttlers? honest effort.

The Indian badminton queen Saina lived up to her billing in a nerve-racking first set and then served notice of her supremacy in the final set.

On the other hand, former world champion Wang Shixian had to bid adieu to this prestigious even despite of putting a commendable show of skills.

The battle heated up when both contenders put all they had to gain an early advantage but neither of them could tip the scale in her favour.

However, Saina bagged couple of valuable points just before the interval and established a decent lead on the points table.

She maintained that upper hand in most part of the game and wrapped this segment of the showdown with a tight yet decisive figure of 23-21.

The London Olympics bronze medallist could not show consistency in the following game and squandered an opportunity of a straight-set victory.

Meanwhile, the Chinese campaigner employed all of her brilliance and experience in the game and brought the contest to right balance.

This time Wang Shixian did not repeat previous mistakes and played impeccable badminton all the way to game point situation.

She did not allowed her rival to enjoy a permanent lead and stayed close on the points table. Finally, her hard work paid off and she registered a winning total of 21-19.

Unexpectedly, the third set proved a dead contest as the Indian shuttler did not give her competitor even a single chance to come back and sent her packing with a staggering knock.

At first, Saina mounted pressure by piling up a mountainous figure of 11 and then magnified the impact in third quarter of the set.

She placed a concluding score of 21-16 and setup a semi-final clash with Intanon Ratchanok of Thailand.
