WILTON, Maine ? A local man is accused of stealing items from a residence he was living at and then selling them.
One of the items was a rideing lawn mower, which he traded for a down payment on a 2013 Ford Mustang convertible at a Waterville dealership, Wilton police Chief Heidi Wilcox said Friday. The dealership returned the lawn mower once it learned that the lawn mower was stolen, she said.
Sgt. Chad Abbott arrested Richard Irish, 32, of Wilton on a charge of felony theft on Wednesday, Wilcox said.
A conviction on the charge carries up to five years in prison.
Police received information that Irish had stolen items from the residence, and Abbott launched an investigation, Wilcox said.
Other items stolen include a four-wheeler, which was also sold but recovered, she said. A leaf blower and a weed whacker also were taken and recovered.
Abbott is continuing his investigation due to more items being missing.
Irish was released on $1,500 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear on May 15 at a Farmington court.
