Police: Explosion in central Nigeria kills 1 (AP)

KADUNA, Nigeria ? Police say an explosion in a central Nigeria city has killed at least one person and wounded others.

Kaduna state police commissioner Bala Nasarawa told The Associated Press the explosion happened Wednesday morning in Kaduna, the state capital. Nasarawa said the explosion occurred in an auto parts market in the city.

The commissioner said at least one person had died and others were wounded. He said investigators are looking at the cause of the blast, which occurred near cylinders of natural gas.

Kaduna, on Nigeria's dividing line between its largely Christian south and Muslim north, was at the heart of postelection violence in April.
